2012-13 Season Outlook for the Oakland Raiders…
Welcome
back class and after that extended weekend we are back to talk football and
this time we are going to be talking Raiders Football. That’s right we are
jumping over to the other side of the bay and check out the Raiders. This time
we are going to use a lil different format we are going to go over a couple of
key positions on both sides of the ball. But this week we are going to start
with the offense…
Quarterback: (Last
years starter: QB Carson Palmer, Projected 2012-13 Starter: QB Carson Palmer)
Well the Raiders were a little bit inconsistent at this position last year after
incumbent starter Jason Campbell went down the Raiders went ou and traded the 1st
2 rounds of their draft to acquire Palmer.
Who was very inconsistent in his first couple of games but seemed to
find a rhythm with the young receiving core which gives a lot of hope to this
years bunch. But Palmer is the starter and it will be up to Leinart. Pryor and
Newhall to keep him sharp and fight for the backup position should Palmer go
down…
Running Back: (Last
years starter: RB Michael Bush/RB Darren McFadden, Projected 2012-13 Starter:
RB Darren McFadden) With the early season injury to star back McFadden,
Bush got the bulk of the carries and did a decent job. But as a good friend of
mine would say”He was no Darren McFadden”. So with that being said he rushed
well enough to get himself a nice contract with the Chicago Bears. Which means
that new backs Mike Goodsen and Taiwan Jones are going to have to step up and
make sure that they share the load with McFadden even though he will get the
bulk of the carries when they are given their chances they are going to need to
make an impact…
Wide Reciver/Tight
End: (Last Years Starter: WR DHB/WR Chaz Shillings/TE Kevin Boss, Projected
2012-13 Starter: WR DHB/WR Denarius Moore/TE Brandon Myers) The Raiders had
and still have a relatively unknown Receiving Core. Lead by 1st
round draft pick WR Darius Hayward Bay who has developed into a nice #1 receiver
with Denarius Moore as a #2 and Jacoby Ford in the slot position. The Raiders
should have a pretty productive Receiving Corps
this season being lead by QB Palmer they should produce at least one pro
bowler. At Tight End the the Raiders have Brandon Myers who is in his 4th
year out of Iowa and looking to make an impact…
Offensive Line: (Projected
2012-13 Starters: LT Jared Veldheer/RG Cooper Carlisle/LG Stefen Wisniewski/ C
Mike Brisiel/ RT Khalif Barnes) The Raiders have had some issues in recent
years with their offensive lines. The line last year especially was a weak
point for a 8-8 team but they have returned most of them again this year a year
better and a year smarter and thanks to how the Raiders worked their offseason they
are very deep at this position with young bucks like G Zack Hurd looking to
find a spot on the roster. Look for this area of the team to be much improved
this year giving McFadden plenty of room to run and give Carson time to throw…
So
class after looking at this offense it looks like they could have yet another
late in their career revival of a Pro Bowl QB and a nice crop of young receivers
to grow with him. Expect them to be explosive and fun to watch. That’s all for
now kids next time we talk Raiders defense .Till then … Class is dismissed….
