Welcome back students today we are going to have another
discussion about the Arizona Cardinals. And this time we will be talking about
the Defense, a defense that last season finished out of the top 15 in Passing
Defense (17th) and out of the top 20 in Rushing Defense (21st).
Will they do better this year? Lets talk about that…
Defensive Line:(Projected
2012-13 Starters: LE C.Campbell, DT D.Williams, RE D.Dockett): The
defensive line has some real veterans at the end position and a young up and
comer at the NT this season. But tf they
can improve upon those numbers against the run, they can make a push for the
postseason this season. But they are pretty sure looking weak so far this
preseason…
Linebackers:(Projected
2012-13 Starters: LOLB O.Schofield, LILB D.Washington, RILB P.Lenon, ROLB
S.Acho): This area of the team is where they need some improvement against
the run. The Cardinals need to get some help and with not a single pro bowler
at this position on the roster. The Cardinals do have the advantage of this
being a young linebacking core that can grow together. But only time will tell…
Cornerbacks/Safety:(Projected
2012-13 Starters: LCB P.Peterson, SS A.Wilson, FS K.Rhodes, RCB W.Gay): This
is an are of this team that last year really stood out. With CB Patrick
Patterson coming into his 2nd year on the team. The CB’s on this
team are young and good so the more years that they spend in this defense the
better they should get….
So
if it all comes together the Cardinals should be in the hunt for a wild card
spot this year. But I don’t see them getting beyond the 9-7 or 8-8 good enough
for 2nd or maybe 3rd if the Seahawks live up to
expectations. But the Cardinals most
likely a year or 2 away from being a serious contender again. Look for them to
play spoiler this year but not contend for a Super Bowl in 2012-13. For now
students that is all. Till next time…Class is Dismissed….
