The Jeremy Lin phenomenon….
Ok
class welcome today our discussion is going to be on Jeremy Lin the phenomenon that
spread across the country in early February. And has spread to Houston this off
season. We are going to talk today about the choices all parties made in this
particular situation…
We
are going to start with a fairy tale story where a young man…a young Asian man
decided to play a game with a ball. And he played it well well enough to get
picked up by a d-league team but not well enough to be drafted. His name was Jeremy Lin after playing in the
d-leagues for a couple of months he was noticed by his home town team in the
Golden State Warriors. He got very little play time in Golden State and never
quite found his spot there but he definitely showed flashes of being a solid player. Then we move on to
his next home with the New York Knicks where he was pretty much lucky to claim
a roster spot and was pretty much the 12th man on the team…
While
there a strange thing started happening…Knicks players started falling like
flies. One after another until the Head Coach (Not sure if it was D’Antoni or
Woodson who started him?) decided to give him a chance. And for 35 games 25
starts he was a coaches dream and he showed all the teams that had cut him what
they were missing. Averaging over 20+ points a game and getting like 10-15
assist in several games during that
stretch. Although he didn’t finish the season due to injury. He still finished
it looking like the incumbent starter at point guard for the 2012-13 season.
Then came free agency (And here is where J.Lin was just plain silly) and lil
Jeremy decided to find out what he was worth on the open market. And along came
the Houston Rockets with an offer he just couldn’t refuse…
So
let the standoff begin. The Knicks had 72 hours to match the ridiculous offer
that the Rockets had put forth. And just
as everyone (me included) expected the
Knicks declined to accept that offer and let the Asian sensation known as
Linsanity took off for his new home with the Houston Rockets. Who knows where
the story is gonna go from here but this young man lived (and is still living)
a ghetto dream so to speak. He went from Not drafted to End of the Bench for 3
NBA teams to a paid man (28 Million dollars to be exact) So I say congrats to
you Jeremy and may your days from here on out be filled with Dollars and
Dollars Bills and Bills…
So
I hope you learned class that dreams can come true and that anything can truly happen
in this great country we live in called the USA. Remember anything can happen…
