My expectations for the 2nd half of the season in
MLB (Part 2)…
Welcome
students today we are going to cover the
West Coast Teams in the AL West. If you read yesterday then you know the drill.
Doing only the teams that reside on the West Coast. And I will place them in
the order that I feel they will finish
in the division. And I will hand out pitching/batting and overall grades for
the 1st half. So lets get started with the first team who is of
course….
11)
Los
Angeles Angels (48-40/ 2nd in AL West) Pitching A-, Batting A
Overall A – Now even with giving them such high marks this is exactly where
I have the Angels finishing 2nd in the AL West unfortunately for the
3rd year in a row I feel the Rangers are going to run away with the
division and possibly the American League Pennant. But I do believe that the
Angels will wrap up one of the 2 WC spots with a strong second half. They still
have a healthy Jared Weaver to anchor the pitching staff and the emergence of
Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo in the middle of that lineup the Angels are going to
be contending for years to come…
22)
Oakland
Athletics (45-43/ 3rd in AL West) Pitching A-, Batting B, Overall B+
- The Athletics have had a very up and down season. The pitching staff is
still ver young and missing 2 young arms (Braden,Anderson). But the emergence of
some young guns (Milone,Griffin,Parker and All Star Cook) the Athletics managed
to stay in the hunt for a WC spot going into the 2nd half. And I believe
that they will continue to get better. The batting lineup has been inconsistent
but have seemed to have gotten hot so far. So I expect them to cool off at some
point but maybe the A’s pitching staff can take advantage of this hot streak
and get some wins to have them in the hunt late for a WC spot in the
postseason. I believe they will compete cant say if they will lock it up…
33)
Seattle
Mariners (37-52/ Last in AL West) Pitching B+, Batting C+, Overall C+ - The
Mariners have a great hitting line up lead by Ichiro and a young up and coming
pitching staff anchored by a King in Felix Hernandez. But here is the clincher.
Much like I said about the Padres yesterday the Mariners just will not be able
to do enough in the 2nd half to really have any type of an impact
other than playing spoiler to someone else and their playoff dreams. But I just
don’t think they have enough games to catch the Angels or A’s and definitely not
the Rangers. So for now Mariners fans hold to your heart the phrase “There is
always tomorrow!” and know your team will compete soon just not this year…
Well that’s all we have for this season check back again at
the end of the season and we will see if im anything close to right and hand
out some final grades that will be much harsher. Till then….Class is dismissed…..
