The Lebron James situation vs The Dwight Howard situation…
First
im going to open this class by letting you know that the opinions expressed
here are my own. And that these views in no way represent the way that the boys
over at West Coast Bias feel on these subjects. Now with that being said I am
going to address the LeBron situation. Lets take a step back about 2 years when
LeBron made the initial decision to leave his hometown team of the Cleveland
Cavaliers. And as he put it “Take his talents to South Beach” to win “Not 1,
Not 2, but 3,4,5,6 NBA titles” then there was the wild ride of last season as
the Heat seem to take on all obstacles that the East had to throw at them to
reach the pinnacle of the NBA Finals and with all the hype of any star studded
NBA Finals the Heat fell short taking 2 of the 1st 3 games only to
drop the next 3 straight and be (litarally) sent home crying. But they were
there! Only 2 teams were allowed to actually compete for a NBA Title and one of
them was the Miami Heat. They had proved to the World that they were
championship caliber team but not quite a championship team.
Then
you bring us to the current lockout shortened season. A season that saw the NBA
Finals that people have wanted to see! Two superstar teams the Oklahoma City
Thunder and the Big 3 of the Miami Heat!
It looked to start the series that the Heat were outmatched again this
year. But then LeBron, Dwayne and Chris all decided that this was not going to
happen again. Lebron decided to show up for the 4th Quarter this
year (He was absent for most of them in
last year’s Finals). Dwayne Wade took a step aside and left the team in King
James hands and Chris Bosh did what he has done so well over the year he played
like a Hall of Fame role player. And now you have it Title #1 of what I think
will be 3 or 4 at least in the next few years. Looking back now should LeBron
have handled himself differently….Yeah maybe. But at the end of the day did the
result justify the actions??? In this writers mind the score is officially
LeBron 1 Cleveland 0…
And
now on to the Dwight Howard situation/Circus/debacle whatever you want to call
it. This time last year we were wondering about conflicting reports that
DHoward wanted out of Orlando. DHoward denied this outright said he wanted to
stay in Orlando and backed it up by signing his player option to stay in Orlando.
Now we heard at the time that the firing of then head coach Stan Van Gundy was
a part of the deal and his departure at the end of the season seemed to confirm
that. Out also was the GM Otis Smith and in comes new GM Ron Hannigan who has
exactly one sit down face to face meeting with his superstar Center. In which
DHoward promptly request a trade to the Brooklyn Nets….
Now
it looks like we have all climbed into the way back machine and went back to
last year. And we are back to big baby Dwight wants to go to Brooklyn! Only
this time the story plays out a little differently while Otis Smith refused to
give Dwight his request at any cost. Good old Ron is more than willing to serve
up the multi-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year to the team he wishes to go
to as long as they get what they feel is equal value in return. So now we will
have another Big 3 (or Big 4 w/Gerald Wallace) this time in Brooklyn and
everyone wins in this scenario the Magic no longer have to deal with Dwight’s
crying and they would get a serviceable Center in return in Lopez. But this
situation went on entirely too long, If anything these two need to be used as
examples of although winning a title sometimes the damage done to your rep may
not always be worth it…
