Good Day Class and welcome to another
addition of Double K’s class room. This week’s lesson is out of the good book
of Fandom. So please take out your text and tun to Chapter 2 the chapter on
Over Expectation….
For
those of you who don’t understand listen carefully cause I am only going to say
this once! Over expectation is when you expect the acquisition of one player or
one draft pick is going to vault your team to the championship that season. Now
this is not impossible although it has never been done. The closest being
Marino who reached the Bowl in his rookie season but couldn’t close the deal. I
know there are those of you who are thinking “Hey what about Brady and Big
Ben?” Well if you think real hard with that brain of yours you will realize
that they both achived the feat in their 2nd year in the league. So
with all that said lets get to the point. That yes the addition of a key free
agent or draft pick may vault your team to the next level but it hasn’t to date
vaulted anyone to a Super Bowl. The closest I have seen to the was the great
Dion Sanders when he won back to back Super Bowls with the 49ers and Cowboys .
But in defense of both of those teams they were on the brink of Super Bowls
when good old Prime Time got there and helped them get to the promise land and
bring home rings. So I will say that exception exist to the theory if you are a
championship level team in the 1st place and you add a future hall
of famer like Deon or dare I say it Payton Manning that can vault you to the
next level and carry you to a championship! But only in that case so sorry to
disappoint you Denver fans but you still have a little ways to go before
bringing home that Lombardi trophy. But I will say reeling in a big fish like
Manning is a HUGE step in the right direction.
Now
on to the reason why we are speaking about this today Warriors fans who have
issues with New Owner Joe Lacob for his recent flurry of moves in the trade and
free agent market. I will say to you that as a long time Warrior fan reserve
your boos for a more deserving time. You may say that the trade of our beloved
Monte is enough but I say wait and open your eyes really look at what the
Warriors received in return… #1 C Andrew Bogut : Ok big risk here hasn’t played
in months and is coming off a big injury when he dose come back. But look at it
from this angle the Warriors doctors have been pretty successful in keeping our
important guys on the court recently and if they can keep Bogut healthy then
the Warriors easily have a top 3-5 center in the NBA. Something they have
desperately needed for a while. #2 via trade of F/G Stephen Jackson to the
Spurs the Warriors received F Richard Jefferson who as a veteran sharp shooter
who can do well in the Warriors up tempo offense. But only time will tell he
has a player option for next year. And last but not least the 2012 Draft picks
the Warriors if they continue on the path they are on in this season of woa
they could possibly end up retaining their 1st round pick if they
land somewhere in the Top 7 of the NBA Draft in June and should the Spurs make
the playoffs (as they always do) then the Warriors will have their low round
(20-25) pick as well leading to… after the purchase of the Hawks 2nd
round pick a total of 4 picks (2 1st ,2 2nd ) in the 2012
NBA Draft and 2 of them would be high round picks or leverage o obtain another
player that we want and need. So Warriors fans I say to you to not have
patience put to take the time to see how all the pieces of the puzzle fit.
And
from this fans opinion the future once again looks bright for this Warriors
team and I could lose optimism and boo and criticize like everyone else. And
who could blame me. Look at the love/hate relationship I have had with this my
hometown team for decades. But for once it looks like someone is actually
trying to make this team better one step at a time. And the one thing I know
about this team is that this is not an over night project this is going to take
a little bit to come into clear view what the new management is doing with the
team. But as I say goodbye to a long time fan friend in Monte Ellis I take a look at the Warriors
new lineup and I see name like Bogut and Thompson and Jefferson I smile cautiously
and save my optimism till I see what the end product is! I have been down this
road before Mr Lacob you are just a different driver for what right now is the
same old bus but I will wait at the bus stop faithfully and climb on when you
arrive for I am Warrior faithful for life albeit cautious faithful. So that is
the lesson today class make sure that you are always looking at the bigger
picture with what your team is doing before you pass judgment on a trade or
free agent pickup cause just remember you can win a title in a year but it takes
years to build a dynasty…. For now class is dismissed ….till next week my
students…
