The Golden State Warriors and the NBA Draft…
Well welcome class to today’s subject and though most of you hate this subject. The Warriors draft woes seem to have gotten a lot worse over the past years! They haven’t really hit home runs with their 1st round picks in recent years lets review their recent picks…
2008 – F Anthony Randolph (LSU) – Pick #14 (w/Minnesota Timberwolves)
2009 – G Stephen Curry (Davidson) – Pick #7 (still with team)
2010 – F Epke Udoh (Baylor) – Pick #6 (w/Milwaukee Bucks)
2011 – G Klay Thompson (Wash. St) – Pick #11 (still with team)
2012 – F Harrison Barnes (North Carolina) – Pick #7 (Just signed 4 year rookie deal)
Now when 1st glance you look at that list and you say to yourself the 3 that are important are the 3 that we still have but when you think back along the years before that you can for sure conjure up some nightmarish scenario where the Warriors took the draft pick you wanted but the guy just didn’t pan out. At least not until he got signed by another franchise and became an all-star. But that is a convo. for another day. Looking at the Warriors roster for next season they have another season of hope. Another season to look forward to seeing if they can avoid the injury bug and actually make the playoffs. But that isn’t what we are here to talk about.
With all the right picks that they have made over the past 5 years are they really moving in the right direction? They traded for a big man better than any they have had in the past 10 years…In that trade they freed up a spot for an up and coming rookie in Thompson and gave G Curry the reigns to the franchise. And now with Harrison Barns and Festus Ezeil (back up C) they seem to have added pieces that can complete a healthy Warriors squad and help them become a factor in the Western Conference. That will all have to be decided on the court but for now the Warriors seem to be making the right decision’s to become a championship contender. But as a Warriors fan I will pop my popcorn and sit back in my lounge chair and keep the hope that allows me to stay a fan for life….
